The small stroke interpreted as a punctuation mark looks more like a bar belonging to {{c||V}}, but on the wrong side – possibly a mistake? The character after {{w||laþe}} might be read as [[index::Ś|San]], but is more likely to be a sign marking the end of the inscription. If {{w||pnake}} {{w||viθamu}} is indeed a name, it might be either that of the person who put up the stone, or the person in whose memory it was erected. In either case, {{w||laþe}} may be an additional individual name or a verbal form.

The small stroke interpreted as a punctuation mark looks more like a twig belonging to {{c||V}}, but on the wrong side – possibly a mistake? The sign after {{w||laþe}} cannot be anything but a symbol marking the end of the inscription – compare '''...'''.

Commentary

First published in CII 24. Autopsied by TIR in November 2013.

Pictures in Sulzer 1855: Tav. IX (drawing), Schneller 1866: Taf. II, Fig. 3, CII: tab. II (drawing = AIF I: Taf. II,36 A), Giovanelli 1876: Taf. II, No. 4, Oberziner 1883b: tab. XX, Franz 1959 (photo) and LIR (drawing).

The small stroke interpreted as a punctuation mark looks more like a bar belonging to V s, but on the wrong side – possibly a mistake? The character after laþe might be read as San, but is more likely to be a sign marking the end of the inscription. If pnake viθamu is indeed a name, it might be either that of the person who put up the stone, or the person in whose memory it was erected. In either case, laþe may be an additional individual name or a verbal form.
