Definition
See Property:character and Category:Character. Character variants are graphical variants of the same archigrapheme. The format used is As, Ad, E2s, E2d, where the upper-case letter stands for the archigrapheme, the numeral indicates the variant as defined on the character's page. d stands for dextroverse, s for sinistroverse, the latter being the default case. In the case of mirror-symmetrical letters, the dextroverse and sinistroverse variants are identical, but still systematically distinguished; on inscription pages, the variant displayed is chosen in accordance with the writing direction of the inscription, e.g. Is in sinistroverse inscriptions, U2d in dextroverse inscriptions.
For more information and maps see Script and Non-script notational systems, as well as the individual character pages.
