Franz and Kasseroler 1957: 80 read the inscription dextroversely, as seen when the bowl was stood on the shelf upside-down. Epigraphically, a sinistroverse reading with the bowl standing upright is preferable: While is written upside-down, is upright, and appears in its inverted form typical for Venetic and the Raetic North – also the arrangement of the individual scratches (in and particularly , and ) suggests that the bowl was inscribed this way. Probably an owner's inscription.
