Commentary

First published in Mayr 1951: 78 f. (no. IX). Autopsied by TIR in October 2014.

Images in Roberti 1950: Tav. III,IX (drawing) = Mayr 1951: 78 (IX), Pellegrini 1951: no. 9 (photo) and 313 (9) (drawing), LIR (photo and drawing = IR).

The two characters are embossed above line 1, on the upper edge of the horse's torso, inverted in relation to the letters in line 1. These have been included into the reading by Mayr and Pellegrini 1951: 312 ff. (no. 9) (both śχ); their being part of the inscription is doubted by Mancini and Schumacher. Indeed, they belong with the group of additional (factory?) marks on Sanzeno statuettes, cp. esp. SZ-2.1, SZ-10.2 and SZ-20.

Further references: Pellegrini 1951: 324, Mayr 1952: 176, Vetter 1954: 71, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 222.
