Commentary

Inscribed on the bottom of the beaker, the tops of the letters pointing towards the foot; length about 12.5 cm. The characters extend over the entire breadth of the bottom. The surface is much damaged, making the reading of many letters doubtful; the middle bit is all but gone. Initial is clear, as is a little further on; between them and after Pi can be distuinguished with appropriate lighting. The reading is supported by the occurrence of the same sequence in the beginning of AS-17.1. After Alpha, there is room for one letter of which nothing is left; after that, possibly . The rest of the inscription is comparatively clear.
The sequence is obscure. It resembles AS-17.1, including the ending in -va, but no segmentation can be made at this point.
