Commentary

Mancini reads ia, but the twig of l, though lacking the white inlay, seems well distiguishable. Compare la? (SZ-62), also on an axe, and in the same place. In the inscription on the other side of the object, however, no twig can be made out. Compare also SZ-77 and SZ-93 for scratchings (non-script) in the same place on axes.
