Commentary
First published in Marinetti 2003: 114 (no. 5). Autopsied by TIR on 17th November 2015.
Images in Marinetti 2003: fig. 1.5 (drawing) (= Marinetti 2004: fig. 2,5), MLR (photo and drawing).
Length 3.2 cm. The lines are faint and each made up of many short scratches. The first letter is probably , though a scratch can be seen to its right. (The Sanzeno special character would be out of place in this context, apart from the fact that the dental affricate appears to have been written with Zeta in this area, but cp. VR-6.) The letter read San features a short vertical line in the upper area, between the two bars, whose function is unclear.
In regard to apparent influence from Etruscan writing practice in San Giorgio di Valpolicella (see Z), San might represent the unmarked sibilant rather than the marked one as in the Venetic tradition (see Ś) – maybe lavise? Cp. VR-10 and VR-11 for puncts replacing vowels, and lasθe/lasta for a name being attested with both auslauts -e and -a.
