Commentary

First published in IR.

The signs are unambiguous and still clearly visible. The writing direction is debatable, but a sinistroverse reading is more probable not only statistically, but also because inscriptions on this type of handle are generally written as seen from the internal side (compare SZ-35).
The object bears another, identical inscription.
