Commentary

First published in Schumacher 1994: 309 f.

Picture in Schumacher 1994: Ab. 1 (drawing = Schumacher 2004: Taf. 12,1 = LIR).

Length 3.2 cm. Inscribed on the rounded surface of a bone, with the lines being made up of numerous small scratches, but well legible. V s is considerably taller than the other letters, reaching all the way from one edge to the other. Non-script; cp. the identical VN-6 as well as VN-4 and VN-19. See here for a discussion of possible interpretations of inscriptions with doubtful status.
