Commentary
The archaeological find spot of Montesei di Serso near to Serso presents an ancient settlement.
The settlement is located on two ridges. Indeed Montesei mean little mountains and due of his excellent position the place was occupied from 2.000 BC to the 1st century BC.
At the archaeological site could be observed a Raetic settlement built between the 6th and 1st centuries BC. Today the ruins of three houses are apparent: The houses half in terra built, with a quadrangular ground plan and an entrance area, were built very closely each other however they are separate buildings. Inside, apart from a lower dry stone wall, the structure of the houses was made of wood. The roof, probably a saddleback roof, was cover with grass and greenery.
Between the ruins of the houses were found several objects of different form and purpose: iron tools, bronze ornaments and numerous fragments of crockery. Of a certain importance are the antlers with Raetic inscriptions (cp. amongst others SR-1, SR-2 etc.). The objects were kept at the Museo delle Scienze di Trento in Trento.
