While {{bib|Mayr 1960f|Mayr}} does not argue his point further, it is likely that he was thinking of the inscription [[index::SZ-16]] ''laθurus ipianus apanin''. The fact that NO-2 represents an apparently nonsensical section of the well segmentable SZ-16 suggests that the inscription might be either an unsophisticated imitation (the sieve dates from the Roman period) or a forgery, in any case made by a person who knew SZ-16 but was unable to read it. Commentary

First published in Franz 1958b. Autopsied by TIR in November 2013.

Pictures in Franz 1958b: Abb. 2 (drawing), Mayr 1960f: 389 (drawing) and IR (photo tav. LII, fig. b and drawing = LIR).

The inscription, about 8.5 cm long, is located right under the rim and in good condition. While Franz read pianusapau in spite of the oddly misaligned U2 s, Mayr 1960f: 389 proposed pianusapan with the hasta of N s missing due to a mistake by the writer, citing as a parallel the inscription SZ-16 laθuru sipianu sapanin. The fact that NO-2 represents an apparently nonsensical section of the well segmentable SZ-16 suggests that the inscription might be either an archaic, but unsophisticated imitation (the sieve dates from the Roman period) or an outright forgery, in any case made by a person who knew SZ-16 but was unable to read or understand it. (See Schumacher 2004: 336.)
