Commentary

First published in Pellegrini & Sebesta 1965: 16 (no. 13). Autopsied by TIR in November 2014.

Length of the remains 1.5 cm. The letters are damaged by a horizontal crack. S s and A3 s are unambiguous; the left line of the chevron coincides with the breaking edge. Pellegrini's reading ]nas with the hasta of N d gone is the only option which accounts for the smallish angle; a reading U2 s can be excluded in Southern Raetic context. For an inscription ending in -nas, cp. SR-3.1. However, as Mancini pointed out, a sinistroverse reading would be more likely regarding both the orientation of the letters and the fact that none of the other inscriptions from Montesei di Serso is dextroverse.
