The inscription, about 8.5 cm long, is located right under the rim and in good condition. While Franz read pianusapau in spite of the oddly misaligned
, Mayr and in his succession Tibiletti Bruno proposed pianusapan with the hasta of
missing due to a mistake by the writer. While Mayr does not argue his point further, it is likely that he was thinking of the inscription SZ-16 laθurus ipianus apanin. The fact that NO-2 represents an apparently nonsensical section of the well segmentable SZ-16 suggests that the inscription might be either an unsophisticated imitation (the sieve dates from the Roman period) or a forgery, in any case made by a person who knew SZ-16 but was unable to read it.
