The inscription, about 8.5 cm long, is located right under the rim and in good condition. The fact that NO-2 represents an apparently nonsensical section of the well segmentable [[index::SZ-16]] suggests that the inscription might be either an archaic, but unsophisticated imitation (the sieve dates from the Roman period) or an outright forgery, in any case made by a person who knew [[index::SZ-16]] but was unable to read or understand it. Commentary

The inscription, about 8.5 cm long, is located right under the rim and in good condition. While Franz read pianusapau in spite of the oddly misaligned U2 s, Mayr 1960f: 389 proposed pianusapan with the hasta of N s missing due to a mistake by the writer, citing as a parallel the inscription SZ-16 laθurusi pianus apanin. The fact that NO-2 represents an apparently nonsensical section of the well segmentable SZ-16 suggests that the inscription might be either an archaic, but unsophisticated imitation (the sieve dates from the Roman period) or an outright forgery, in any case made by a person who knew SZ-16 but was unable to read or understand it. (See Schumacher 2004: 336.)
