Compare the similar inscriptions SZ-45.1 / SZ-45.2 and SZ-46.1 / SZ-46.2, also on scythe rings, with utiiti on one and la on the other side. SZ-44.1 features an additional smaller stroke before and two little crosses inside the and in between the two , which have been ignored in the reading due to the abovementioned parallels.
