Commentary

First published in Marinetti 2000: 74–75 (no. 1). Autopsied by TIR on 17^th November 2015.

Length of the remains 6 cm. Mentioned in passing in Marinetti 2004: 409 ("un frammento ceramico con segni da attribuire probabilmente al'alfabeto venetico", which is not obvious at all). Only the lower parts of the characters are left, and none can be definitely identified, though the two characters in the middle might well be . The remains of both lateral characters consist in angles, but with opposed orientation – at least one of them might be Sigma. The inscription is the only one on pottery from the area of Verona, and on what must have been an unusually massive vessel at that. Possibly non- or pseudo-script; maybe Latin (two potsherds with a Latin inscription come from the same context). See Non-script notational systems.
