Commentary

Sanzeno bowl.
Medium-fine clay, from brown to dark grey in colour; slightly blackened at the bottom; moderate tempered of medium-grained sand and argentine mica. Reduction firing; burnished. Restored by composing the antique fragment and a modern piece which is light grey in colour.
Between neck and belly decoration in form of a circumferential ribbon at which the modern piece imitates this decoration. Below further decorations: at two positions a group of striae at which this decoration is not imitated in the area of the modern piece. Between the striae-decorations a Θ s-shaped character which is part of the ornamentation. Decorations before firing.
Sidewise one striae-decoration characters.
Information about find circumstances like exact find place or find date are unknown.
In accord with the typology the bowl can be dated to the 3rd–2nd centuries BC.
Probably first published in IR: 279–280, No. 57. In IR as well as in LIR is given a false indication related to the inventory number. In LIR Mancini notes the fact of an identical inventory number used for the two objects SZ-52 bowl (SA-49; cp. LIR: 110) and SZ-58 bowl (SA-44; cp. LIR: 107). However the study and autopsy by the team of the Thesaurus Inscriptionum Raeticarum have shown the correct inventory numbers are: 11.944 = SZ-52 bowl; 11.942 = SZ-58 bowl.
Autopsied by the Thesaurus Inscriptionum Raeticarum in November 2013.
