Commentary

First published in Schumacher 1992. Autopsied by TIR in November 2013.

Pictures in Schaaff 1977: Taf. 61 (photo = Egg 1980: Taf. 4,2), Schumacher 2004: Taf. 1,3 (drawing) and LIR (drawing).

On the neck-guard. Note that, in contrast to SZ-73.1, this inscription is engraved. The three letters are faint, but unambiguous. A disruption caused by corrosion has been mended with ???; the lower parts of the letters must have been reapplied on the new surface (the light grey area). Vague traces of scratches might be discerned on the surface to the left of the mended crack, but not to the right. If the preserved letters constitute only the end of what was a longer inscription, it may have been a name in the pertinentive case.
