Franz read Latin LT or LP VALENTINUS with kursive e, Mancini tentatively reads the middle section as valen. Hardly legible due to corrosion, possibly pseudo-script. Faint traces of possibly intentional strokes on the other side of the hilt – Franz detected N preceded by two stokes and suspected a repetition of the owner's name.
