Chased with a punktförmige Punze. Usually assumed to run dextroverse (from the end of the hilt towards the blade). Franz read Latin LT or LP VALENTINUS, Mancini tentatively reads the middle section as valen. Hardly readable due to corrosion, possibly pseudo-script. Faint traces of possibly intentional strokes on the other side of the hilt.
