Commentary

First published in Pellegrini & Sebesta 1965: 15 (no. 10). Autopsied by TIR in November 2014.

Images in Pellegrini & Sebesta 1965: 15 (drawing), IR (photo tav. LV a = LIR and drawing = LIR).

Length 6.6 cm. The object is broken into multiple fragments; the entire upper part of the inscription is missing apart from the last two letters. For the arrangement of the lower tips of the letters see the drawing. The rightmost trace is situated 1 cm from the drilled hole; it is probably part of the initial letter. The last letter is L s with inscribed punctuation – the punctuation mark, an evenly rounded dot situated under the bar of L s, is considered to be inscribed based on the comparison with word-final Rpunct s in SR-1 / SR-7, but cp. SR-8 with final S s with the punctuation mark following the letter. For the use of Venetic syllable punctuation in Raetic context see Script. Before Lpunct s, A3 s is unambiguous despite the missing upper half. The hasta immediately to its right is most likely I s judging by its small distance from A3 s. Before that, the angle is hardly Φ2 s or Χ3 s, as the right line is vertical. For R s, the scratch in the centre would be inexplicable. In either case, the small oblique scratch to the left of the angle would remain isolated. No further conjectures concerning the preceding letters seem possible.
