Length 3.7 cm. Embossed with a pointed tool on the chamfer. The inscription is in excellent condition, the characters are easily legible. As the find circumstances are unknown, no terminus ante quem can be given for the dating of the inscriptions on [[index::SL-1 helmet]].
The [[index::SL-1 helmet|helmet]] is inscribed in two more places: An oblique stroke {{c||line d 2}} (height 1.5 cm) is embossed, also with a pointed tool (about thirty indentations), in the back on the chamfer. The same mark is found in the exact same place on another Negau helmet ([[index::Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien – Antikensammlung]], VI 1668), but embossed with an oblong tool ({{bib|Marstrander 1927}}: 14 f. and 20). While this fact seems to indicate a manufacturer's mark, another mark {{c||line d 2}} {{c||line d 1}} (height 0.6 cm) is embossed on the edge of the calotte right over the chamfer and the oblique stroke.

Length 3.7 cm. Embossed with a pointed tool on the chamfer. The inscription is in excellent condition, the characters are easily legible. The only possible point of debate is the first letter, here transcribed as the Raetic special character Þ5 s. It is built up of a hasta with a circle of eight indentations, embossed counter-clockwise, encircling one of the hasta's topmost elements. A single indentation, apparently belonging to the hasta, appears over the circle. See also the detailed description by Marstrander 1927: 18. The letter has in the past been interpreted as a form of Zeta for t (Marstrander 1927: 20 ff., Prosdocimi in Prosdocimi & Scardigli 1976: 228, see also SL-2.3), as Etruscan f addF1 s (Kretschmer 1943: 186, see also SL-2.3), or as i I s (Pellegrini 1969: 50 f., Egg 1986: 228 (Nr. 330)). See Þ for a discussion of the various shapes of the Raetic special character. The small scratched bar extending upwards from the hasta to the left, suspected by Eichner 1994: 135 to be the bar of a character variant of Tau, we consider with Marstrander 1927: 18 to be unintentional – either a slip of the tool used for embossing, or entirely unconnected with the inscription. The same goes for what looks like one or even two indentations right below the bar of A15 s. See also Nedoma 1995: 33.

The helmet is inscribed in two more places: An oblique stroke line d 2 s (height 1.5 cm) is embossed, also with a pointed tool (about thirty indentations), in the back on the chamfer. The same mark is found in the exact same place on another Negau helmet (Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien – Antikensammlung, VI 1668), but embossed with an oblong tool (Marstrander 1927: 14 f. and 20). While this fact seems to indicate a manufacturer's mark, another mark line d 2 s line d 1 s (height 0.6 cm) is embossed on the edge of the calotte right over the chamfer and the oblique stroke.

As the find circumstances are unknown, no terminus ante quem can be given for the dating of the inscription.
