The other letters geben keinen aufschluss (give information about, shed light on) außer vll u, das in der gegend wie oben venetoid sein sollte. In any case gilt: im Zweifelsfall sinistrovers.

Commentary

First published in Kasseroler 1957: 102 (M 620). Autopsied by TIR in November 2013.

Image in Kasseroler 1957: Taf. 42,2 (photo = Franz 1958c: Taf. 8) and IR (drawing = LIR), MLR (photo = Franz 1958c photo).

Length 4.7 cm. Franz 1958c: 68 and Kasseroler 1957: 80 read the inscription dextroversely, as seen when the bowl was stood on the shelf upside-down, assuming that the lowest decorative line was used as a reference line. Epigraphically, a sinistroverse reading with the bowl standing upright is preferable: While Χ2 s is written upside-down, A11 s is upright, and U3 s appears in its inverted form typical for Venetic and the Raetic North – also the arrangement of the individual scratches (in S d and particularly S s, U3 s and R2 s), pace Franz, suggests that the bowl was inscribed this way. Probably an owner's inscription.
