Commentary

First published in Pallua 1970: 43. Autopsied by TIR in November 2013.

Pictures in Pallua 1970: 43, Abb. 9 (drawing), Schumacher 2004: Taf. 4,2 (drawing) and LIR (drawing).

Near the wheel head, length 2.9 cm. Possibly damaged at the top by corrosion. If interpreted as script, the presence of V s implies a sinistroverse reading. Schumacher and Mancini also consider a reading aeei or avei, but no additional bars can be made out. Mancini's argument concerning the relative distance between the twigs of the second and third characters is hardly decisive for characters this small. Non-script or pseudo-script cannot be excluded.
