Commentary

First published in Schumacher 1992.
Pictures in Schumacher 2004: Taf. 4,2 (drawing) and LIR (drawing).
Near the wheel head, about 2.9 cm long. Possibly damaged at the top due to corrosion. If interpreted as script, the presence of V s implies a sinistroverse reading. Schumacher and Mancini also consider a reading aeei or avei, but no additional twigs can be made out. Mancini's argument concerning the relative distance between the twigs of the second and third sign is hardly decisive for signs this small. Non-script or pseudo-script cannot be excluded.
