Commentary

On one side, near to the wheel head of this flat chisel, an inscription, about 2.9 cm long, is to be observed. The inscription needs to be read sinistroverse and the upper respectively lower area of the letters are incomplete. On the first position there is readable an A with a central, vertical hasta. As previously mentioned the upper area is incomplete. The following letters are readable as E or V. A definite reading is not assured due to the condition of the letters. On the end of the inscription is a shorter hasta which could be interpreted as I. After Schumacher the writing character of the signs could not be taken as assured (Schumacher 2004: 182).
The inscription was first mentioned in Schumacher 1992: 182, and later assumed in the revised edition from 2004 (Schumacher 2004: 182, 211-212, Taf. 4.2).
